Who Are the True Fathers of Our Faith?

When you think of the beginning of our faith, how far back do you go?  Do you begin with the  so-called Roman fathers starting about the 4th century or do you go back to the original fathers of scripture starting in the book of Genesis.

The book of Matthew begins with these words: A record of the genealogy of  Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.  In the Bible, the people of God always understood that “to be cognizant of one’s past was essential for establishing the future.”(1)

If you belong to Christ, then you belong to Abraham (1).  “And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise.” (Galatians 3:29)

My challenge to each one who proclaims to believe in the Messiah Yeshua ( Christ Jesus) is to go back to the true beginning with the covenant made with Abram, who is Abraham.  Follow the trail through Isaac, Jacob (who is Israel), Judah, David and on to the Messiah Yeshua (Jesus).  Then measure the words of the apostles and writers of the scriptures against those of the assumed Roman fathers.   Once you’re done that, you should know who are the true fathers of our faith and the true nature of our Messiah Yeshua (Christ Jesus) and why he came and will come again.

And of course, always be like a Berean confirming everything with the Scriptures.  By the way, the Bereans challenged every word of Paul about the Messiah Yeshua, using what the Jews called the Tanakh, what we call the Old Testament.

Shalom.
