Yeshua (Jesus), the Light and the Way of Life (Proverbs 6:23)

*Proverbs 6:23  For the commandment is a lamp, and the Torah is light, and reproofs of instruction are the way of life.

The Light and the Way of Life
Yeshua is also known as  the “light” and “way of life?” I have a few verses I’d like to share I believe reflect this statement.

*John 1:4-5,9   In him was life, and the life was the light of men.  And the light brought light into the darkness and the darkness did not overtake it…..For he was the light of truth, that which lights every man who comes into the world.

*John 14:6   Yeshua said to him, I am the way, and truth and life. No man comes to my Father except by me.

Also David, in *Psalms 119:105, describes the Torah using these words: Your word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

The Torah is the mirror for us whereby we measure how much we reflect the light of Messiah.  Yeshua is the end of all righteousness which means He is the final outcome or goal of righteousness.  He is righteousness thus the only one who can judge righteously and the only example of righteousness for us.  Yes, His righteousness is in us, yet still, it has to be manifest from us through our relationship with the Father in and through the Son.  We should always look to Yeshua, for he is also the Judge.  Of course we will not be able to do all His commands perfectly, yet that doesn’t excuse us from pursuing obedience to the Word of God.  Who is Yeshua (Jesus)?  He is the Word of God the Father (John 1:1)

*James 2:8-13  And if you fulfill the Torah of Eloah (God) in this as it is written.  You shall love your neighbor as yourself (Lev. 19:18) , you do well. But if you respect persons (show partiality), you commit sin and are reproved by the Torah as a transgressor concerning the Torah.

For he who keeps the Torah and offends in one thing is found guilty of the whole Torah.  For he who said, Do not commit adultery (Exo. 20:14; Deut. 5:18), said Do not kill (Exo.:13; Deut. 5:17).  Now if you do not commit adultery, but you kill, you have become a transgressor concerning the Torah.  Thus speak and thus act, as people who are to be judged by the Torah of liberty.  For judgement will be without mercy concerning that one who has not practiced mercy; by mercy you shall be elevated above judgement.

Works and Faith
Works definitely do not save you, they only reflect your heart of love for the Father and Son.  Yet works do have there place.

*James 1:22-25  And be doers of the word and not hearers only, and do not deceive your nefeshot (soul).  For if a man is a hearer of the word and not a doer of it, this one is like the man who sees his face in a mirror, For he sees his nefesh (soul) and passes on and forgets what manner [of man] he was.  And everyone who looks into the perfect Torah of liberty and remains in it is not a hearer of a report that is forgotten, but a doer of deeds.  And this [man] will be blessed in his deed.

*James 2:17-18  Thus also, faith alone, without works, is dead.  For a man will say to you, You have faith and I have works. Show me your faith without works and I will show you my faith by my works.

Conclusion
Obey, show love, have mercy towards others.  Know that Yeshua, our Messiah, has paid the penalty of death that the Torah requires for our transgression.  And he will always show great mercy on us as He judges our lives as the great Judge. His mercy towards us and ours to others, always triumphs over judgement.

“For the commandment is a lamp, and the Torah is light, and reproofs of instruction are the way of life”

Yeshua is that lamp, that light and the instructions to the way of life.  He is the Word of God, The Living Torah!

Shalom,
Allen
