For This is the Love of God, That We Keep His Commandments…1 John 5:3

1Jn 5:3  For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.  (ESV)

2John 1:6  And this is love, that we walk according to his commandments; this is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, so that you should walk in it.  (ESV)

“…heard from the beginning”

I believe this is the”Shema“.  The Shema is the central prayer in Jewish prayer books.

Deuteronomy 6:4-9

Deu 6:4  “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.
Deu 6:5  You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.
Deu 6:6  And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart.
Deu 6:7  You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.
Deu 6:8  You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.
Deu 6:9  You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Word of God

Yeshua (Jesus) is the Word of God.  Was He not there from the beginning? So every word spoken by God was Yeshua even the ShemaYeshua is the embodiment of God’s Word.  He is the Word of God and hasn’t changed –   Hebrews 13:8  Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. (ESV)

John 1:1-3

John 1:1  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:2  He was in the beginning with God.
John 1:3  All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.

We Are Israel

Know this, that when we come to Yeshua (Jesus) by faith, we enter into the covenant given to our fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.  The covenant of Israel (Jacob).  There is a spiritual Israel and we are it, the ekklesia, called out ones, assembly…Israel!  Israel and church are synonymous.  They were never seperate.  We have be given through Yeshua, the opportunity to enter into the covenant of the ekklesia, assembly, called out ones….Israel = Church !

Yeshua didn’t start something new.  He was fulfilling the restoration of Israel and will complete it when He returns the second time.   For understand what twelve names are on gates and foundations of the holy city of Jerusalem that comes down from heaven:

Revelation 21:10:14

Rev 21:10  And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great, high mountain, and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God,
Rev 21:11  having the glory of God, its radiance like a most rare jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal.
Rev 21:12  It had a great, high wall, with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and on the gates the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel were inscribed–
Rev 21:13  on the east three gates, on the north three gates, on the south three gates, and on the west three gates.
Rev 21:14  And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

*Note: The Twelve Tribes of Israel and the Apostles were Israelites.   We enter into the covenant of Israel when we believe and obey.

Scriptural references to us becoming Israel:

Ephesians 2:11-12

Eph 2:11  Therefore remember that at one time you Gentiles in the flesh, called “the uncircumcision” by what is called the circumcision, which is made in the flesh by hands–
Eph 2:12  remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. (ESV)

Romans 11:13-36

Rom 11:13  Now I am speaking to you Gentiles. Inasmuch then as I am an apostle to the Gentiles, I magnify my ministry
Rom 11:14  in order somehow to make my fellow Jews jealous, and thus save some of them.
Rom 11:15  For if their rejection means the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance mean but life from the dead?
Rom 11:16  If the dough offered as firstfruits is holy, so is the whole lump, and if the root is holy, so are the branches.
Rom 11:17  But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, although a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing root of the olive tree,
Rom 11:18  do not be arrogant toward the branches. If you are, remember it is not you who support the root, but the root that supports you.
Rom 11:19  Then you will say, “Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.”
Rom 11:20  That is true. They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you stand fast through faith. So do not become proud, but fear.
Rom 11:21  For if God did not spare the natural branches, neither will he spare you.
Rom 11:22  Note then the kindness and the severity of God: severity toward those who have fallen, but God’s kindness to you, provided you continue in his kindness. Otherwise you too will be cut off.
Rom 11:23  And even they, if they do not continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in, for God has the power to graft them in again.
Rom 11:24  For if you were cut from what is by nature a wild olive tree, and grafted, contrary to nature, into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these, the natural branches, be grafted back into their own olive tree.
Rom 11:25  Lest you be wise in your own sight, I want you to understand this mystery, brothers: a partial hardening has come upon Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in.
Rom 11:26  And in this way all Israel will be saved, as it is written, “The Deliverer will come from Zion, he will banish ungodliness from Jacob”;
Rom 11:27  “and this will be my covenant with them when I take away their sins.”
Rom 11:28  As regards the gospel, they are enemies of God for your sake. But as regards election, they are beloved for the sake of their forefathers.
Rom 11:29  For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.
Rom 11:30  For just as you were at one time disobedient to God but now have received mercy because of their disobedience,
Rom 11:31  so they too have now been disobedient in order that by the mercy shown to you they also may now receive mercy.
Rom 11:32  For God has consigned all to disobedience, that he may have mercy on all.
Rom 11:33  Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!
Rom 11:34  “For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?”
Rom 11:35  “Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?”
Rom 11:36  For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.

Conclusion

  • Know that you have been grafted into the covenant promises given to Israel when you believe in the Messiah’s gift to us who were once Gentiles.
  • Love God not by seeking righteous and salvation through his commandments, the mistake  Israel made in the beginning (Romans 9:31-32); but by your faith in Him, obey his commandments to show your love for Him and others.
  • Go back to the beginning, understand His Teachings (Torah) and receive the Life that has always been His Word and His Salvation, Yeshua HaMashiach (Jesus the Messiah).

Shalom!
